Iveco ALS Advanced ICU Ambulance

A:  A standard ICU ambulance focuses on intensive care transport, whereas the ALS (Advanced Life Support) version adds full pre-hospital advanced life support capability. Specific features include dual-channel infusion pumps, a 12-lead monitor/defibrillator, optional portable ultrasound, an active medication cabinet management system, and a working aisle for two paramedics to operate simultaneously. The ALS version is better suited for emergency physicians or advanced paramedics to perform procedures on scene – such as intubation, central line placement, or chest decompression – rather than merely sustaining the patient during transport.

A:  Iveco's stock high-output alternator with the chassis battery, two additional secondary alternators wired in parallel (dedicated to the patient compartment), and a large-capacity LiFePO- battery bank paired with a high-power pure sine wave inverter in the compartment. An online UPS is also added to provide zero-interruption power when switching between power sources – preventing monitor or infusion pump resets. Even with the engine off, full ALS equipment can run for an extended period.

A:  Standard configuration includes multiple large oxygen cylinders, connected via an automatic changeover manifold that switches between primary and reserve cylinders without manual intervention. A dedicated medical vacuum system is installed: a central electric vacuum pump feeding several bedside suction terminals for airway management after intubation or chest tube drainage. A portable pneumatic suction unit is also provided as a backup. All lines are color-coded (white for oxygen, yellow for suction) with self-sealing quick connectors.

A:  The layout is centered around two-person simultaneous operation: aisles wide enough on both sides of the stretcher, with a flip-down crew seat on each side. The main equipment tower is on the patient's right side at the head end, integrating a monitor, ventilator, infusion pumps, and an ultrasound mount. The left side features a modular medication cabinet with pull-out drawers and optional tracking system (recording access time and remaining quantities). An procedure light (adjustable focus) is mounted above the head area for intubation or central line placement.

A:  The Iveco ALS version adds a considerable amount of equipment weight beyond a standard ICU ambulance (dual secondary alternators, extra batteries, multiple oxygen cylinders, electric vacuum pump, etc.). To maintain braking and suspension stability at full load, we implement the following measures:
Auxiliary air springs (not full air suspension) on the rear axle, with manual pressure adjustment to keep the vehicle level.
Upgraded front brakes to high-performance ventilated discs, and rear brake pads with a higher friction coefficient.
A four-wheel weight distribution calibration is also performed, ensuring leftright axle load differences remain within a reasonable range. Customers can request the postconversion axle load report.
